MÜLHEIM PANORAMIC TRAIL

Between Vineyards and the Moselle Valley

The Mülheim Panorama Trail lives up to its name. The loop hike begins at the fire station in Mülheim and initially leads through the gently sloping vineyards of the Johannisberg. Even here, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Moselle and the wine-growing village of Lieser across the river. You’ll then head into the Andeler Forest. Following quiet forest trails and open vineyard paths, you’ll return to the heights above Mülheim, where the Moselle Valley once again unfolds impressively before you. Finally, the route descends into the idyllic valley of the Veldenzer Bach. Small bridges, babbling water, and sparse woodland accompany you on the way back to Mülheim. Since the route has no major inclines, the Panoramaweg is also suitable for families and anyone who wants to enjoy hiking along the Moselle at a leisurely pace.

THE STORM OF LIFE AND THE VALLEY OF THE VELDENZER BACH

Amid forests, vineyards, and a stream valley

This varied loop hike begins in Mülheim an der Mosel and combines open vineyard landscapes with quiet forest trails and the romantic valley of the Veldenzer Bach. A particular highlight along the way is the Lebensturm Moselle Valley. From the surrounding hills, you can enjoy beautiful views of the vineyards and the Middle Moselle landscape. The route then leads down to the Veldenzer Bach, whose shady banks provide a charming contrast to the sunny vineyards. At just under twelve kilometers, the hike is ideal for an active day of vacation and requires no special technical experience. However, you should still be in reasonably good physical condition.

BRAUNEBERGER JUFFER SUNDIAL

In Search of Great Mosel Wines

Wine and hiking go hand in hand along the Moselle. This loop trail takes you from Mülheim toward the famous Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr vineyard. Along the open trails above the river, you’ll be accompanied by vineyards, slate slopes, and ever-changing views of the Moselle Valley. At just under ten kilometers, the route is pleasantly compact. Nevertheless, there’s plenty of time to take in the landscape and let your gaze wander over the Moselle hills across the river. Wine lovers in particular can look forward to a hike where some of the Middle Moselle’s most famous vineyards become part of the nature experience.

Romantic Castles and Views of Fortresses

This extensive but relatively gentle circular hike connects two of the most striking landmarks around Mülheim: Lieser Castle, situated directly on the Moselle, and the Landshut Castle Ruins, perched high above Bernkastel-Kues. On well-maintained trails, you’ll hike through the wine-growing landscape around Lieser and enjoy unobstructed views of the Moselle along the way. The view of the Landshut Castle ruins gives the tour its special historical charm. At about 12 kilometers, the route requires some stamina, but remains pleasant to walk due to the minimal elevation gain.

For avid leisure hikers

If you’re looking for a challenging day hike along the Moselle, this route offers just the right challenge. The trail leads from Lieser through the varied landscape between the Moselle Valley, vineyards, and the Veldenzer Bach valley to the wine-growing village of Burgen. Along the way, sunny stretches alternate with quiet forest paths and trails along the stream. The loop, which is just over 22 kilometers long, doesn’t pose any particular technical challenges but does require a very good level of fitness. Be sure to allow plenty of time for breaks—after all, the views and quiet spots along the way are far too beautiful to rush past.

Moselsteig Stage 10: Kesten/Osann-Monzel – Bernkastel-Kues

The Moselsteig is one of the region’s most famous hiking trails. Its tenth stage leads from Brauneberg along scenic vineyard and forest paths, directly through Mülheim an der Mosel, and on to Bernkastel-Kues. Along the way, you’ll hike on mostly easy-to-walk trails through vineyards, forests, and over scenic ridges. Time and again, beautiful views of the Moselle and the surrounding wine-growing villages open up before you.

Pilgrimage on the Mosel Camino

The Way of St. James along the Moselle

The Mosel-Camino, which is about 160 kilometers long, runs from Koblenz-Stolzenfels to Trier. Over several stages, you’ll hike through vineyards, forests, and historic towns along the Moselle.
The fifth stage runs from Traben-Trarbach via Bernkastel-Kues and Lieser to Monzel. If you’re planning your own itinerary along the Mosel-Camino, you can take a break in Lieser and spend the night at the Weinromantikhotel, located directly across from the Moselle. The next morning, you’ll continue your pilgrimage toward Monzel and Trier.
